IOSTE Symposium 2024 Opening Ceremony

It has been 10 years since Kuching, Sarawak hosted the XV IOSTE Borneo 2014 and now once again Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Sarawak Branch hosting the XXI Symposium of the biannual International Organisation of Science and Technology Education (IOSTE) from 11 - 15 November 2024.

The organising organisations consist of the Executive Board of IOSTE, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Sarawak Branch, Institute Teacher Education of Malaysia, Institute Teacher Education, Batu Lintang Campus, Institute Teacher Education, Tun Abdul Razak Campus and Invention and Design Association Sarawak (IDEAS). This symposium is supported by the Ministry for Education Innovation and Talent Development Sarawak and Business Event Sarawak (BESarawak).

IOSTE 2024 adopted the theme of Science and Technology Education for Sustainability and Social Justice. This resonates with science and technology education appearing unable to catch up with the manifold crises that threaten our world: climate change, feeding the world population and geopolitical conflicts. In addition, in the growing world economy in both emerging and developed countries, there are critical global needs for the well-educated in science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM). There are 2 keynote addresses delivered. The first is on Empowering Educators as Leaders of Change: The Role of Teachers in Advancing Science and Technology Education by Puan Anis Alisya Abdullah, Senior Deputy Rector, Institute of Teacher Education Malaysia.

The symposium was officially opened today by Professor Ir. Dr. Juferi Idris representing the Acting Rector of UiTM Sarawak Branch, Associate Professor Ts. ChM. Dr. Mohammad Isa Mohamadin at The Waterfront Hotel Kuching and the official closing will be officiated by Prof. Dato Dr. Hj. Jamil Hj. Hamali, President of the Invention and Designs Association Sarawak (IDEAS) on 15 November 2024.
